Along with Fino and Salt Yard, Cigala is one of the new wave of Spanish bar restaurants combining authenticity with contemporary flair in distinctly urban, chic surrounds. Like most proper tapas bars, Cigala blurs the line between restaurant dining and drinking the bar here is certainly as much of an attraction as the dining room, perhaps more so.
The tapas menu here is extensive and changes regularly, featuring around 40 different dishes. The cured meats and cheeses are not to be missed, while dishes such as pan-fried chicken livers in fino, and baked crab with brandy, tomato and cayenne offer more complexity for the palette.
What is really worth seeking Cigala out for is the list of Sherries a breathtaking 19 to choose from, some meted out in 100ml copitas, others available by the half bottle. The full range of styles are here from a salty Manzanilla Pasada Almacenista-Lustau to a caramel smooth Moscatel Emilin-Lustau.
