Set in the rolling hills of the Devon countryside this charming 16th century inn is only six miles south west of Exeter but it may as well be in different country – quite which country that is depends on your palate.

nobodyinn

Not renowned for its cosmopolitan outlook, this part of the world is nonetheless home to some of the UK’s most brazen multiculturalism and most wilful eclecticism – at least where alcohol is concerned.

Setting aside the beverages for a moment, the wine list alone is worth a visit – the actual tome itself is akin to an oenophiliac’s Domesday Book with over 700 wines and owner Nick Borst-Smith’s careful, often amusing notes to inform and inspire by turns; all are available by mail order or direct from the inn.

Unsurprisingly, there are always a number of Sherries available both by the glass (at the inn) and by the bottle (mail order or - if you’re not the designated driver – at the inn) – and if you’re eating staff are always happy to recommend which best complements your food.
