Founded in Edinburgh in 1934 by the Contini family
to serve the nascent Italian community, Valvona &
Crolla is Scotland’s oldest delicatessen and one
of Europe’s original specialist food shops.
Over the years their remit has grown to cover produce from all over the continent and beyond – these days it’s a perennial recipient of food awards, harvesting in the last year alone a number 2 placing in the Independent’s 10 Best Food Websites and receiving Best Delicatessen in Scotland from the Scotsman.
To list even a sample of V&C’s product range would be a thankless task and unrepresentative of the variety and sheer breadth on offer – from Italian and Spanish staples to a serious range of malt whiskies.
A widely renowned specialist in Italian wines, Valvona & Crolla’s range extends all over Europe and the New World, with the main wine regions all represented. This includes a small, though well considered, range of sherries available in store or online (where tasting notes will help the less experienced to make the right choices).
